The relathionship between art and science has a long history. However, more than ever, artists and scienctis are interested in working together to face the most importante and unpredictable problematicas the world is having today, specially when talking about the technological and biological advances as well as the horror of the climate change. Here are three international schools who offer programs completely focused on this matter.
1. College of Arts & Science (NYU)
Located in the heart of one of the world’s great cities, the College of Arts & Science offers its student a core curriculum based on the liberal arts. Some of the courses offered include Quantitate Reasoning, Physical Science, Life Science, Texts & Ideas, Societies & the Social Sciences, and even a summer courses such as Designer Genes, Reshaping our Biological Futures; Physical Science: Einstein’s Universe; and Life Science: Designer Genes, Reshaping our Biological Futures.
One of the College’s main objectives is to bring together the art and sciences knowledges from different perspective, having in mind both social and hard sciences are constantly related with art and vice versa. Also its main benefit is the environment in which it is located, some of the most important museums in New York as well as science and non-profit humanitarian organizations are only a few minutes from campus.
MA Art and Science explores the creative relationships between art and science. It examines how they may be communicated through an evolving interdisciplinary practice. On this course, you will investigate new approaches to making and presenting work and ideas that reflect laboratory processess and practices driven by curiosity and research.
The relationship between art and science expands the boundaries of understanding and invention. It challenges our view of the world. Through their work, artists and scientists contribute to a greater understanding of life in the age of the Anthropocene and how we relate to the world around us. Both require creative insight in their quest for knowledge. They focus on developing new ways in which the innovative nature of their discoveries can be communicated and understood.
3. Tufts School of Arts and Sciences
Tufts University’s largest school, the School of Arts and Sciences, is committed to intellectual and artistic engagement through a liberal arts tradition that prepares all of our students for a lifetime of learning.
Along with its robust undergraduate programs, the School of Arts and Sciences also includes the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
